Derek James Goodnow, aged 25, passed away September 5, 2023. He was born in the summer of 1998, in Englewood, CO, to parents Matt and Kylie - radiating a sparkling light in the world that has been extinguished too soon.
Derek was a gentle giant and fiercely loyal to those he loved. His impish smile was wildly contagious. His quirky wit coupled with his deadpan delivery provided joy and laughter despite the occasional spicy topic. He took interest in the small details that many would call mundane, regardless of where they were found.
He loved nature, especially the mountains where he would hike, fish, and camp - recently summiting Mt. Bierstadt’s 14,065’ peak independently. He enjoyed the unique perspective that flying his drone provided and liked to play video games in his spare time. He was a hard worker that took pride in providing for his wife and his cats.
Derek is survived by:
wife Courtney Abendroth
parents Matt and Kylie
siblings Dylan (Amy Bosley), Henry, GraceLynn
grandparents Wally and Cathy Goodnow and Karen Cooper
10 aunts and uncles and 9 cousins
We are all deeply saddened by his loss.
